Culinary Book Awards Get Rebranded

TORONTO — Canada’s Culinary Book Awards are getting a makeover with the new name, Taste Canada — The Food Writing Awards, a new logo and revised awards categories.

TV consultant Karen Gelbart has redeveloped the awards to bring more recognition of Canadian cookbooks to the public.

“The excellence in the Canadian culinary community deserves to be brought to the attention of the wider public,” Gelbart is quoted as saying in the Toronto Star. She noted that the previous awards were well received by authors but did not get much public or media attention.

Taste Canada invites nominations for English and French books in four categories: general cookbooks, single-subject cookbooks, regional/cultural cookbooks and culinary narratives. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1. Nominees will be announced Aug. 1 and winners will be announced Nov. 5.
