TORONTO — Cutty Sark, one of the great names in Scotch whisky, is celebrating 75 years of Canadian distribution by Charton-Hobbs Inc.

“It’s an incredible achievement, and we look forward to seeing continuous success for the brand in the future,” said Duncan Hobbs, president, Charton Hobbs Group of Companies.

“As one of the oldest family companies in Canada, we are extremely proud of having represented Cutty Sark-blended Scotch whisky for the past 75 years. We also look forward to working closely in partnership with the brand’s new owners, Edrington Distillers Ltd., creators of Cutty Sark.

Cutty Sark was launched in 1923, when it was bootlegged in the U.S. during Prohibition. When Prohibition ended in 1933, the brand became the best-selling Scotch whisky in the U.S., selling more than one-million cases per year. At that time, it challenged convention and pioneered a new easy drinking, smoother style of whisky. The drink was created specifically for cocktails and mixing and became an instant classic. It’s a blend of the finest single malts and top-quality grain whiskies.
