Dairy Farmers to Receive Nearly $1 Million From Government

CARDINAL, Ont. — The Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) is celebrating news that the federal government has announced plans to offer almost $1 million in funding to support a national traceability program and help implement a ProAction Initiative, an assurance program for dairy production.

“Canadian dairy farmers have a reputation for producing high-quality and world-class products. But we can raise that bar even higher,” said Pierre Lemieux, parliamentary secretary to Canada’s Minister of Agriculture. “This investment will help the dairy sector demonstrate their commitment to high standards in animal health and food safety, leading to cutting-edge national traceability and assurance programs.”

Dairy farmers have already spent millions to produce food responsibly, investing in products such as time-temperature recorders to ensure milk is kept at the correct temperature and mattresses and brushes to improve the comfort of their cows.

The DFC represents more than 12,000 Canadian dairy farms.
