TORONTO — Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto has been named second in the Best Italian Restaurant in the World 2023 international awards by 50 Top Italy. Don Alfonso’s executive chef, Daniele Corona, was invited to attend the high profile ceremony, Gran Galà della Cucina Italiana at the Teatro San Babila in Milano, to accept the award among his peers last week.
Each year, more than 350 inspectors travel the world to compile the influential list. First place went to Da Vittorio in Shanghai and third place went to Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Tokyo. Don Alfonso was the only Canadian restaurant to be recognized in the top 10 on the world stage while Cioppino’s in Vancouver was ranked 33rd place, as the only other Canadian destination.
“Once again, we are supremely proud and grateful to be recognized with such a prestigious international honour,” says Nick Di Donato, president and CEO, Liberty Entertainment Group (LEG). “I heartily congratulate chef Corona and his team for their unwavering commitment on our culinary journey, which began with our collective vision to provide guests an exceptional dining experience and put Toronto — and Canada — on the global stage.”
“The many notable achievements we are celebrating at Don Alfonso this year furthers our passion and desire to create the consummate dining experience for our esteemed guests, and we look forward to continuing the journey to excellence in the year ahead. We are thrilled to represent the absolute best of Canada on the international stage,” says chef Corona.
