OAKVILLE, Ont. — The Oakville, Ont.-based Donato Food Corporation has acquired the 18-unit Chopped Leaf, purveyor of chef-designed salads, gourmet wraps, sandwiches and soups. The B.C.-based Chopped Leaf chain now becomes sister company to Teriyaki Experience, with both now managed by the newly formed Innovative Food Brands (IFB) company.

Blair Stevens, founder, The Chopped Leaf, will continue to lead the growth of the concept as president of the brand. “We couldn’t be more excited about this acquisition and corporate restructuring,” said Nick Veloce, president and COO of IFB. “Our brand philosophies are well aligned and this synergy will strengthen both chains.”

With locations in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, expansion of The Chopped Leaf is expected to continue in Western Canada, with plans to also grow into Ontario and Eastern Canada. Thirty new units are planned within the next 18 months.
