FREDERICTON — The first edition of the Down East Brewing Awards took place last weekend as part of the Fredericton Craft Beer Festival.
The awards recognized the top brews in 13 different categories, as well as the best brew and brewer of the year. Trailway Brewing was awarded both, receiving the Best in Show for their Black Hops, as well as the 2017 McInnes Cooper Brewer of the Year.
Winners in the inaugural awards included:
Lager
Gold: Grimross Brewing Company – Scratch #1: German Lager
Silver: Spindrift Brewing Company – Abyss Schwarzbier
Bronze: Spindrift Brewing Company – Coastal Lager
Wheat Beer
Gold: Saltbox Brewing Company – Dynamite Trail
English Ale
Gold: Bogtrotter – Angry Otter Pub Ale
Silver: Think Brewing Company – Eureka ESB
Bronze: Graystone Brewing – Bushwhack Bitter
