Dubai-Inspired Choco Café Opens

HALIFAX — Choco Café has opened in Halifax serving gourmet chocolate, fair-trade organic coffee, specialty teas and authentic hot chocolate, and The Chronicle Herald got the scoop on the opening.

It turns out the café was a natural expansion of the Chocolate by Design Company founded by Dubai native Lama Issa and her husband, Omar Khartabil, in 2006. “We’re used to chocolates as gifts or favours during [baby and bridal] celebrations, and I realized there was nothing available in the city that would suit my faith and be recognized as a baby shower gift,” Issa told The Chronicle, explaining her inspiration for the shop.

The café, located at 1360 Lower Water Street in Halifax, is open anytime between 6:30 a.m. and midnight or later, depending on traffic. “On Friday night there were people who were walking around and wanted to stop in for a late coffee,” Issa told The Chronicle. “We stayed open.”
