EDMONTON — Slow food chapter leaders, and members from across Canada, are preparing for the Slow Food Canada national meeting to begin tomorrow, May 3, and run until May 6 at Edmonton’s Selkirk Hotel.
The meeting agenda will include an election to vote in members to the National Board. “The business at hand is to set up a Slow Food Canada national organization, a group that will carry on the same work as provincial chapters of the movement, yet with a national slant,” said Mary Bailey, a sommelier connected with the event.
Meanwhile, The Roots, Shoots and Garden Boots gala is also on the agenda in Edmonton this weekend. The sold-out event, to be held Saturday, May 5 at the Hole’s Enjoy Centre and Prairie Bistro, will feature Paolo Di Croce, Slow Food International secretary general. Di Croce is stepping in for Carlo Petrini, founder of the International Slow Food Movement and president of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy, who had to cancel at the last minute.
