TORONTO — Restaurants Canada has named Patrick Saurette, owner/operator of The Marc restaurant in Edmonton, as the new chair of its board for 2018-2019.

“As an independent restaurateur, Patrick will bring tremendous value to the association,” says Shanna Munro, president and CEO of Restaurants Canada. “With his leadership, we are in good hands to continue to extend the reach, relevance and impact of Restaurants Canada across the country on behalf of our members.”

Saurette started working in the hospitality business at age 16, working with a catering company. He has since worked in many independent restaurants in Edmonton, Toronto and Kelowna through the years. In 1993 he started with Il Portico Restaurant Group where he became an operating partner and helped build an Edmonton institution. When the group sold the property and closed the restaurant in 2008, Saurette and his wife decided to open The Marc.

“Restaurants feed the soul of our country with great hospitality,” says Saurette. “When we work together, we can all share in making our business better, stronger and more resilient.”

Saurette first joined the Restaurants Canada board of directors in 2008 and is one of 30 directors from across Canada.
