WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Labour Board has given union certification to all 28 employees at a Winnipeg KFC/Taco Bell branch located at 1651 Regent Ave. West. The employees — consisting of shift managers, foodservice and customer service staff — will be represented by the Workers United Canada Council.
The unionization represents a first for KFC/Taco Bell workers in Manitoba and will address employees’ concerns about health and safety, low wages, unequal distribution of benefits and a lack of hours.
“We are very excited and pleased to welcome these workers into our union,” says Barry Fowlie, director of Workers United Canada. “This demonstrates just how important card-check certification is to ensure workers have a collective voice at work in order to improve their working conditions.”
