Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Offering a Royal Afternoon Tea Experience

TORONTO — Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has launched a special dining experience celebrating the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to Canada. The Royal Champagne Afternoon Tea, in partnership with with chef Darren McGrady — the personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Princes William and Harrry for 15 years — offers a royalty inspired menu for hotel guests in October and November.

“Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has a long history of hosting the royal family during their visits to Canada and we are delighted to welcome chef McGrady to consult with our team of world-class executive chefs on this very special menu,” says Brett Patterson, VP of Food & Beverage, Americas, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. “Fairmont is known for providing only the most exceptional culinary experiences, so we are thrilled to offer guests this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sample classics featured at Buckingham Palace.”

The Royal Champagne Afternoon Tea will feature traditional British and French cuisine, including some of Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood favourites, such as jam pennies, chocolate birthday cake and the chocolate biscuit cake chosen by Prince William for his groom’s cake. Veuve Clicquot will be offering its Yellow Label to pair with Farmont’s royal menu.

The full Royal Champagne Afternoon Tea menu includes:

  • Smoked Scottish salmon gravedlax with suèdoise sauce
  • Sage Derby and tomato
  • Coronation chicken mayonnaise bridge rolls
  • Roast beef with golden beetroot and horseradish crème fraîche
  • Potted shrimp with warm Melba toast
  • Jam pennies
  • Warm scones with clotted cream and fraise des bois compote
  • Chocolate biscuit cake
  • Vanilla-bean shortbread
  • Raspberry tartlets with lemon cheese
  • Earl Grey fruitcake
  • Caramel banana cake
  • Battenberg cake
  • Chocolate birthday cake

Participating Fairmont locations include, Fairmont Empress, Victoria; Fairmont Palliser, Calgary; Fairmont Banff Springs; Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa; and Fairmont Royal York, Toronto. Prices start at $45 per person.
