VANCOUVER — A staple in Vancouver fine dining-circles, Five Sails Restaurant’s future looked bleak near the end of 2019, when the restaurant closed its doors. But now, the Glowbal Restaurant Group has stepped in to save it.

Glowbal will operate Five Sails as an independent venture, with many of the restaurant’s longtime staff resuming their posts for this next chapter, including sous chef Masa Mabuchi and sommelier Ramon Fresneda.

Until its closure on December 31, 2019, Five Sails was owned and operated by husband-and-wife team chef Ernst Dorfler and Gerry Sayers for nearly 13 years.

The Five Sails restaurant boasts an extensive menu of signature dishes, such as AAA-beef tartare ($19), warm Dungeness crab cake ($26), Weathervane scallops ($25), pan-seared sea-bass piccata ($45) and honey-glazed smoked duck breast ($39).
