TORONTO — On November 21, Friends of We Care hosted teams from across the foodservice industry for a day of bowling for a good cause.

Friends of We Care is a group comprised of 84 member sponsors organizations across the foodservice and hospitality industry. Founded in 1983, the charity has raised more than $19 million and sent close to 40,000 children to camps across Canada.

The theme of this year’s Toronto Bowling Challenge was ugly sweaters, with tacky tinsel and cringe worthy crochets littering the bowling alley. More than 300 participants from 34 companies raised $161,000 to send children with disabilities to Easter Seals accessible summer camps.

“What an amazing event, with 48 teams of We Care friends and supporters raising a total of $161,000. That’s 644 days at a fully accessible summer camp for kids with disabilities. A special thanks to all our volunteers and donors who helped make our fun fundraising day such a success,” says Tina Rodrigue executive director, Friends of We Care.

This year’s top fundraising company was Cardinal Meats Specialties, with $70,000 in pledges.

The Toronto instalment of the annual bowling challenge was held at Planet Bowl in Etobicoke, Ont. and featured raffles and various prizes, including tickets to Leafs and Raptors games, beer for a year, a bicycle and flat-screen smart TVs.

Looking forward, Friends of We Care is preparing for its next event — the Samko and Miko Toy Warehouse Sale, which takes place on December 2.
