MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Foodservice industry insiders put on their superhero costumes and bowling shoes for the annual Friends of We Care Bowling Challenge yesterday in Mississauga, Ont., raising $184,000 to help send kids with disabilities to camp.

After an afternoon of bowling, Kevin Collins, executive director for the Aurora, Ont.-based organization, presented awards to the top-grossing and best-dressed teams. Sysco Canada emerged as the top fundraiser, raising $50,863, followed by Aramark Canada ($49,430) and Cardinal Meat Specialists ($27,556). “When we first started we were raising between $5,000 and $8,000 … but today we far exceeded any expectation that we would have had as a group,” said Collins, presenting the cheque.

Other high-grossing teams included Sofina Foods ($15,000), and Sysco Toronto ($5,000). Teams that raised more than $1,000 were Burnbrae Farms, Saputo, Sodexo, Aliments ED Foods, Brand Culture, Sysco Fine Meats and Nestlé Professional.
