George Brown College Presents Rosanna Caira with Honorary Degree

TORONTO — KML editor and publisher , Rosanna Caira was presented with an Honorary degree, Bachelor of Business Administration – Hospitality from George Brown College during the convocation ceremonies held yesterday at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

“Rosanna has been a leader and friend to all of us in the hospitality and culinary industry for many years,” said Lorraine Trotter, dean, Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts and International Centre at George Brown College. “The tireless passion and enthusiasm Rosanna brings to her connections and relationships in the industry, including her mentorship of students, inspired us to recognize her [with this honorary degree].”

Caira was also the keynote speaker at the event, addressing both the morning and afternoon graduating classes of 2016.

“Rosanna cares about our industry, models great leadership and has been a long-standing friend to George Brown College and our grads and students,” said Trotter in her introduction.

“I am truly humbled by the recognition that has been bestowed on me with this honorary degree,” said Caira, who, in addition to producing two of Canada’s leading hospitality publications, Foodservice and Hospitality and Hotelier magazines, has also served on the boards of the Ontario Hostelry Institute, Canadian Business Press and the board of directors at the Canadian Hospitality Foundation.

A longtime supporter of the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (CHCA), Caira has shared her expertise with students as a mentor, a guest speaker, a participant on industry panels and networking events and has provided media coverage of CHCA events.

• Leo DelZotto, president of Tridel — Honorary degree, Bachelor of Technology

• Cary List, president and CEO, Financial Planning Standards Council — Honorary degree, Bachelor of Commerce – Financial Services

• Alanis Obomsawin, filmmaker — Honorary diploma, Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Counsellor Advocate

• Fidel Pena, creative director, partner, Underline Studio — Honorary postgraduate certificate, Interdisciplinary Design Strategy, and Institute without Boundaries (IwB) Fellow Award
