TORONTO — For more than a decade, George Brown College has been growing and evolving its culinary programs to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. Yesterday, the industry’s largest culinary school unveiled a new Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts facility at 215 King St. East.
In addition to revealing a new look for the Chef’s House, the teaching restaurant that resides on the first floor of the historic four-storey building, Lorraine Trotter, dean of the Canadian Hospitality Centre of Arts and Anne Sado, president of George Brown College welcomed more than 250 industry operators, suppliers and chefs to tour the upgraded building and learn more about how the food, beverage and hospitality hub plans to bring students and industry together in the heart of downtown Toronto.
Both women stressed the importance of bringing the hospitality industry together to work collaboratively on food-and-beverage research and product development; host industry events and product launches and experience the best of trends and innovation.
The renovated building houses four floors dedicated to applied learning, research and events. Those interested in hosting special events will have access to a wide selection of event rooms that can be rented for meetings and events, product launches, sensory evaluation as well as product research. Capping off the space is a contemporary wine theatre where students can learn in surroundings that deliver state-of-the-art private tasting stations, each with its own built-in sinks and lighting, as well as a temperature-controlled wine wall that may be used by industry to showcase and store their wines.
