VANCOUVER — The Vancouver-based Glowbal Restaurant Group — owners of 10 restaurants, including Coast Restaurant, Italian Kitchen, Society and Black + Blue — is welcoming back a former employee, with news that James Olberg will become the new culinary director and executive chef at Coast Restaurant next month.
“It’s great to be back working with Glowbal Group in beautiful Vancouver,” said Olberg, who was executive chef of the Glowbal Grill and manager of the group’s catering division between 2003 and 2007. “What I’m most excited about are the region’s raw materials, especially its fabulous fish and seafood that have always inspired my cooking.”
The chef, who has won silver medals as part of Culinary Team Canada, has worked at The King Edward Hotel in Toronto, the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel in Alberta and La Société in Toronto, among other locales.
Olberg is assuming the role from Pedro Gonzalez, who will lead the kitchen at the group’s Glowbal Grill, which will be re-opening this summer in a new location at Telus Garden.
