Gluten-Free Layer Cakes Win Spirit of Innovation Award


DELTA, B.C. — The Original Cakerie has nabbed a 2015 Spirit of Innovation Award for two of its Inspired by Happiness gluten-free, two-layer cakes: Dreamin’ of Chocolate and Dreamin’ of Strawberries.

Tailored to a growing gluten-free food-and-beverage market, these new offerings are made with premium ingredients such as Belgian white chocolate, real whipping cream and chocolate ganache. Dreamin’ of Chocolate features two layers of dark chocolate sponge cake, and Dreamin’ of Strawberries features two layers of light-yet-moist shortcake.

“The Original Cakerie has conducted extensive research and product testing to perfect our Dreamin’ of Chocolate and Dreamin’ of Strawberries Cakes. To be sure they would meet the highest standards for taste and quality; we waited to introduce them to the market until nine out of 10 consumer taste-testers were unable to tell the difference between our gluten-free cakes and regular cakes,” said Ben Carpenter, foodservice marketing manager with The Original Cakerie. “Now operators can offer these award-winning, gluten-free desserts without the hassle gluten-free baking can present in the back of house.”
