Golden Plates Recognizes Vancouver’s Top Restaurants and Chefs

VANCOUVER — The Georgia Straight has released the winners of its 2019 Golden Plates awards.

The awards recognize the top-three Vancouver professionals, establishments and companies in a variety of categories, including top restaurants in each neighbourhood and for various occasions, cuisines and types of food (tacos, sushi, et cetera). The awards also highlighted top breweries, distilleries and wineries.

The publication named chef David Hawksworth the city’s Best Chef for 2019. Chefs Rob Feenie, Jonathan Chovancek and Alex Chen were also recognized in the ranking, with Feenie and Chovancek tying for second place.

Trump International Hotel and Tower Vancouver’s Mott 32 restaurant took top honours in several categories, including Best Chinese, Best Cocktails, Best Restaurant Staff, Best Restaurant Wine List and Best Restaurant Overall. Additionally, the restaurant was dubbed the second-best fine-dining restaurant, third-best wine bar and hotel restaurant and its bartender, Thomas Tsoi, was ranked the city’s third-best bartender.

Hawksworth Restaurant also received top rankings in a number of categories, including Best Fine Dining, Best Hotel Restaurant, Best Restaurant Overall (second), Best Restaurant Wine List (third) and Best Pacific Northwest (third) — its sister restaurant, Nightingale, took the number-1 spot in this category.

In the category of Best New Restaurant, the awards named The Victor to the top spot, followed by Di Beppe Ristorante and Pepino’s Spaghetti House.
