TORONTO — The Metro Toronto Convention Centre was packed with wine lovers and foodies last night; they sampled more than 1,500 wines, beers and spirits at the Gourmet Food and Wine Show VIP night in Toronto.

“[This year] was a return to the North Hall after 11 years, and attendance was noticeably up from 2011 and previous events. The expo attendees and exhibitors certainly enjoyed our kick-off night, and we had many positive comments,” summed up Paul McNair, show manager.

The three-day event showcases a selection of local and international wines, beers, spirits and gourmet snacks, plus, education sessions from the country’s wine experts, including a Connoisseur’s Corner, with experts from the Independent Wine Education Guild. Celebrity chefs were also seen roaming the show, including Restaurant Makeover chef David Adjey, who was spotted last night promoting his line of organic olive oil. And, this weekend, Top Chef Canada competitor Andrea Nicholson will take to the Food Network Stage to demonstrate recipes using her line of artisanal condiments.

The Gourmet Food and Wine Show runs until Sunday, Nov. 18. For more information on the show, visit foodandwineexpo.ca.
