Government of Quebec Announces Closure of Its Border with Ontario

QUEBEC CITY — The government of Quebec announced yesterday that it is closing its borders with Ontario to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Anyone coming from Ontario will therefore be prohibited from entering or being in Quebec unless they demonstrate in particular they:
• have their main residence or a secondary residence there and, in the latter case, have to maintain it;
• travel there for humanitarian purposes;
• travel there to obtain care or services required by their state of health or to provide such care or services to a person who requires them;
• work there, practice their profession or attend an educational establishment;
• travel there to comply with a judgement rendered by a court, to respond to a subpoena to appear in court or to allow the exercise of parental custody or access rights;
• be an employee of the federal public service whose workplace is located in Quebec and whose presence is required by the employer at that workplace;
• ensure the transport of goods in Quebec or in transit in Quebec;
• cross it in order to get to his principal residence located outside Quebec;
• enter or cross it as part of an international trip or to another province, by bus, train, ferry or plane

People entering Quebec from Ontario to return to their main residence must self-isolate for 14 days upon their return, with the exception of people who have moved in particular for:
• humanitarian reasons;
• obtain care or services required by his state of health or to provide such care or services to a person who requires them;
• work there, practice his profession or attend an educational establishment;
• comply with a judgment rendered by a court, to respond to a subpoena to appear in court or to allow the exercise of parental custody or access rights.

People from Ontario who transport goods in Quebec or in transit in Quebec; cross it to get to their main residence located outside Quebec; or enter or pass through it as part of an international trip or to another province, by bus, train, ferry or plane cannot make unnecessary stops or be admitted or be in a restaurant for consumption on site.

It is currently prohibited to travel to Nunavik, Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James; Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

The governments of Quebec and Ontario and their police forces are working together to ensure that the deployment of these measures runs smoothly.
