GUELPH, Ont. — Chefs who monitor the evolving foodie scene may want to keep an eye out for the Guelph, Ont.-based Go Food Swap.

“The Go Food Swap is an opportunity for home cooks to showcase and share all the amazing delicacies they make in their home kitchens,” reads the event website. “It’s also a fun way to connect with people who share your love of handcrafted local foods and expand your pantry.”

Participants swap their food for food, which changes the rules a bit. “Because no money changes hands, you don’t have to be inspected,” Kelly Hughes, the event organizer, is quoted as saying in The Globe and Mail.

The trend toward underground food markets is growing. Last weekend, the inaugural Toronto Underground Market was a sold-out event attended by foodies, professional chefs and home cooks.

The Go Food Swap Kick-Off Event takes place Oct. 5.
