Halifax Operators Gear Up for Canada Games

HALIFAX — Halifax Bar and restaurant operators are smiling in anticipation of larger than usual crowds as the city prepares to host the Canada Games.

“Absolutely perfect time of year. I don’st think it’s any secret that February would probably be one of the worst times of year for the restaurant and bar industry,” notes Luc Erjavec, the vice-president, Atlantic Canada, for the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association, in a CBC News report. “People are still paying off their credit cards, and the weather, there are fewer people around spending less money.”

The games kick off on Feb. 11 and run until Feb. 27. The city’s hotels will house the athletes, and Canada Games organizers predict Halifax will see 10,000 to 20,000 more visitors than average.
