Halifax Restaurant Seeks Best Chowder

HALIFAX — Murphy’s Restaurant in Halifax is revamping its 2012 menu with the help of a province-wide search for the best seafood chowder in Nova Scotia. The winning dish will appear on the resto’s menu for one year.

The Nova Scotia Seafood Chowder Challenge 2012 will be judged on several criteria, including, presentation, use of local ingredients, cost and overall taste.

The judging panel consists of Gordon Stewart, executive director, Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia (RANS), Janice Ruddock, executive director, Taste of Nova Scotia, Colin MacLean president, CEO, Waterfront Development Corporation and Lynn Ledwidge, director of Marketing, Destination Halifax.

The competition begins with preliminary rounds from May 27 to 30, followed by the finale June 4. Credit to the winning chowder and the local resident who created it, will appear on the restaurant’s menu for one year. The winner will also receive a Taste of Nova Scotia gift basket and other prizes.
