Heinz to Close Three Plants

LEAMINGTON, Ont. — Heinz is planning to close three plants in North America, including its factory in Leamington, Ont., near Windsor, Ont., in mid-2014. This is part of the company’s plan to cut jobs, a decision that was announced earlier this year.

It is estimated that the Leamington facility has more than 600 employees.

Other facilities are set to close in South Carolina and Idaho. Heinz is eliminating more than 1,350 jobs and shifting operation to other facilities.

The company was acquired and privatized by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and 3G Capital earlier this year.

In related news, McDonald’s announced last month that it was ending its relationship with Heinz.
