Herbert Sonzogni, Dead at 78

ORANGEVILLE, Ont. — Herbert Sonzogni, a founding member of George Brown College’s Chef Apprenticeship Program, died July 26. He was 78.

Sonzogni was a member of the Canadian Federation of Chefs de Cuisine (now the Canadian Culinary Federation) and the Escoffier Society. In retirement, Sonzogni and his wife were apple farmers at Orchard Bonaria.

Sonzogni mentored celebrity chefs Jamie Kennedy and Mark Thuet.

The family will receive friends at the Dods & MCNair Funeral Home & Chapel, 21 First St., Orangeville, Ont., today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel Tuesday, July 31 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at dodsandmcnair.com.
