TORONTO — Hero Certified Burgers has turned a record-setting sales promotion into an $8,000 donation to Toronto’s SickKids Foundation.

Late last year, the Toronto-based gourmet burger joint partnered with the online group buying site WagJag for a limited-time offer. The chain sold its signature burger combo — burger, fries and a fountain beverage — for $4.50, half the regular price.

The public response was enthusiastic, and when the 72-hour offer expired, 15,825 combos were sold with 50 cents from each donated to the SickKids Foundation.

“As a company, giving back to the community is an important part of our company culture,” says John Lettieri, president and CEO of Hero Certified Burgers. “We were delighted to offer our loyal long-term supporters of the Hero brand and new customers a chance to enjoy our Signature Combo for such great value, plus raise money for an amazing organization like SickKids Foundation. We’re looking forward to doing more work with them in the future.”

Jade De Ciccio, development coordinator, Community Events at the SickKids Foundation was equally thrilled. “We are tremendously grateful for the support of Hero Certified Burgers,” she says. “This initiative supported the highest priority needs at The Hospital for Sick Children, so SickKids can continue to be a world leader in pediatric research, learning and care.”
