Hog and Cattle Farmers Eligible for Loan Extensions

OTTAWA — Canadian Farmers daunted by the notion of paying back millions in federal loans can apply for a loan extension, CBC News reports.

According to the CBC, hog and cattle farmers received hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal Advanced Payments Program in 2008. Now, Agriculture Canada has told the CBC that farmers — who say immediate repayment may bankrupt them — can apply for a 10-year extension if they pay a default penalty on their loans.
