HST Referendum Question Announced

HST, or no HST, will be the indirect question asked of B.C. voters when the provincial government holds a province-wide referendum on the controversial sales tax plan, which has been vehemently denounced by associations like the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association among others.

Today, Nov. 11, the B.C. government has released a draft of the actual question voters will be asked.  According the CBC News, the proposed question to appear on the ballots will be: “Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST and reinstating the PST in conjunction with the GST — yes or no?”

The CBC suggests the final verbiage will be the topic of debate in the spring session of the legislature and could change before the final vote is put to residents Sept. 24, 2011.
