International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) 2023, the largest industry-only show for the dairy, deli, bakery and foodservice industries, is fast approaching. This year’s marquee event, being held June 4 to 6 in Anaheim, CA, promises to be the most successful yet.

IDDBA 2023 is expected to reach record-breaking attendance levels, says Whitney Atkins, VP of Marketing. “Everyone is excited to focus on helping our industry move forward and experience product, technology, and merchandising innovation in person and under one roof.”

A number of themes will dominate this year’s show. A key topic will be whole health, whole self, and whole heart. A January IRI survey supports this. It found that 40 per cent of primary shoppers plan to eat healthier. “Consumers are looking at ways to be healthy, but also striking the right balance to be able to indulge. Industry needs to focus on how to respond to that,” says Atkins.

Convenience is also taking on new meaning for many consumers, she adds. “They are seeking out convenience to suit their needs, whether it’s in-store, pickup, delivery, or e-commerce. Members need to understand what that means to their bottom line.”

Cost and supply are weighing heavily on consumers’ minds as well. The IRI survey notes that 96 per cent of primary shoppers are concerned over the high cost of groceries. Eggs continue to lead the list of examples cited by consumers, followed by milk, beef/pork, fresh produce, chicken/turkey, and bread.

The ABC’s of ESG is another trend IDDBA members, exhibitors, and industry are following, says Atkins. “Environmental and social impact are redefining the industry and investment choices.”

The IDDBA Show is the perfect forum to explore these trends and their impact on industry, she adds. “It’s a unique opportunity to bring people together in person to engage with their peers and customers, discuss some of the biggest challenges and opportunities they are facing, and explore the latest trends in product lifecycle management, technology innovation, packaging, and merchandising.”
