Il Fornello Brings Sunset Dining to Riverdale Park

TORONTO — Il Fornello, located on Toronto’s Danforth Ave., introduced its new Sunset Dining delivery experience at Riverdale Park.

“Toronto restaurants have been in over 300 days of lockdown, 170-plus of which were consecutive days. We’re ready to go,” says Sean Fleming, co-owner of Il Fornello.

In collaboration with an ambassador and veteran restaurateur, Nav Sangha, Il Fornello offers an online ordering and delivery platform that charges zero commission. Customers are able to pre-order off the entire menu, including the restaurant’s plant-based items, for delivery Monday through Sunday starting at 5:30pm. There’s also a small outpost set up in the middle of the park, so customers can scan a QR code to order delivery. There’s no delivery charge with a minimum order of $30 and it will be delivered in under 45 minutes.

“We’re just happy to be out and serving our community. We cannot wait to welcome back diners to our decked-out patio, but until then, we’re bringing our restaurant to diners,” says Fleming. “And right now, it’s at the park.

In anticipation of patios re-opening, Fleming has installed new awnings, secured beer and wine and re-hired staff. He employed summer students and seasonal staff to save costs in hopes of making a return to pre-COVID-19 sales levels.

“May and June are traditionally our strongest revenue months when people are excited to be out and haven’t fled for summer cottages,” says Fleming.
