TORONTO — In preparation for Canada Day, July 1, Innis & Gunn has released its annual limited edition Canada Day beer, with a new twist.

The beer was first launched three years ago to celebrate Canada’s birthday and to thank the brewer’s local Canadian fans. This year it will be packaged in cartons featuring original artwork by Canadian artist Deborah Colvin

The brewer conducted a national search to find imagery that would reflect Canada’s rich cultural diversity. “In creating this piece, I drew inspiration from my childhood, and from Canada’s geography and natural environment,” said artist Deborah Colvin of her hockey-inspired artwork. “I wanted this image to truly embody our nation’s connection with nature and to highlight the people of Canada’s character of endeavour, team spirit and fun.”

“Canada is the largest export market for Innis & Gunn beer worldwide,” said Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn owner and brewer. “We are constantly overwhelmed by the feedback from our Canadian beer-drinking fans. For the 2011 beer we wanted to pay homage to the country that has taken our brand to its heart by releasing not what we believe to be an extraordinary limited-edition brew, but to also — for the first time ever — showcase Canadian artwork on our packaging that truly represents the Canadian spirit.”
