TORONTO — Interac Flash celebrated a milestone by demonstrating the first Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile debit transaction in Canada at a McDonald’s restaurant in Toronto.

In partnership with Blackberry, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, RBC  and Moneris Solutions, Interac Flash allows customers to hold their smartphones in front of an Interac point-of-sale terminal, and have the funds securely deducted from their RBC Bank account.

“We’sre pleased to offer our customers new and convenient payment options like mobile Interac Flash,” said Dave Hederson, SVP and CFO, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “As our customers’s purchasing needs and preferences continue to evolve, we are committed to providing them with relevant ways to interact with us as their favourite place to eat and drink.”

The new mobile payment option is anticipated a roll out in Canada in the coming year.
