JASPER, Alta – The Jasper Destination Marketing Corporation (JDMC) has appointed Maggie Davison to the role of CEO.

Davison comes to Jasper from her recent post as executive director of Business Development for the Canadian Tourism Commission based in Vancouver.

With her wealth of experience and knowledge, Davison will lead the JDMC as the organization hunts for new opportunities and builds strong brand awareness for Jasper as a year-round destination.

“This is extremely exciting for our destination bringing in such talent with a wealth of national and international experience, knowledge and relationships to lead the marketing efforts for Jasper,” said Amanda Robinson, chair of the JDMC. “Our work is cut out for us given today’s economy and the destinations vying for the consumer’s dollar. Jasper is a world-class destination with unparalleled experiences. It is up to the JDMC to show the world where and what Jasper has to offer.”

Davison is charged with ensuring the corporation is set up for success and will begin to hire talent to aid in putting Jasper on the tourism radar, develop a comprehensive marketing plan for 2010, and beyond, and grow the Corporation by encouraging other hoteliers and other sectors to participate. Davison will arrive in Jasper in October 2009.

After two years of consultation, deliberation and hard work by a dedicated group of hoteliers, the incorporation of the Jasper Destination Marketing Corporation came to fruition in March 2009. In January 2008, hotels in downtown Jasper and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, which lies outside the town site boundary, began to collect a Destination Marketing Fee of two per cent from guest-room revenue. The funds were set aside until such time as the JDMC was incorporated.
