Jazz Bistro Takes Over Top o’ the Senator

TORONTO — A new owner is jazzing up the empty space that once belonged to Top o’ the Senator, by opening Jazz Bistro, a new club and dining venue.

Colin Hunter, founder and CEO of Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, and avid jazz performer, purchased the venue in 2011.

“I decided we would try and give Toronto a good jazz club and see if the city could support it,” he told The Star, speaking of the three-level venue that features a performance and dining area, wine bar, private event space and rooftop patio.

Daniel Racine, who previously helmed Six Steps Restaurant, and was the consulting chef at The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar, is bringing “modern bistro dining” to Jazz Bistro, serving up lunch, appetizers, dessert and a Sunday brunch.

Jazz Bistro will open at 251 Victoria St. on Feb. 4.
