NEWMARKET, Ont. — King Cole Ducks Ltd. is raising awareness about the farm-to-fork movement by calling on culinary students to compete in its inaugural Great Amazing Duck Race.
On March 24, up to 10 teams comprised of two second-year culinary students from 10 different colleges, will meet at King Cole’s farm in Newmarket, Ont., to collect eggs and cut meat.
Next, students will race to an undisclosed location to source more ingredients, which will be used to prepare a dish at George Brown College in Toronto.
Cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be awarded to each competitor in the first-, second- and third-place teams, respectively.
Submissions are due Feb. 20 and should include the top 10 reasons for wanting to compete, a reference letter from the college in question and a duck recipe.
