LANGLEY, B.C. — The Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma program has been awarded recognition status for a two-year associate degree or similar program by the Master Brewers Association of the Americas. This recognition marks the first time a Canadian institution has been recognized for its high standard of brewing education.

“With the continuing growth in the number of craft breweries opening in B.C. and around the world, there’s a shortage of skilled brewers with a solid foundation in brewing science,” says Alek Egi, instructor and program coordinator, KPU Brewing and Brewery Operations. “The external Master Brewers recognition validates that our two-year KPU brewing diploma program offers a standard of excellence in brewing education, which is important to both prospective students and employers looking to hire highly qualified, educated brewers.”

KPU has been awarded full Master Brewers recognition after a lengthy and detailed evaluation through a review of the curriculum, learning outcomes, qualification of instructors, teaching facilities and employability of graduates. This recognition remains valid for three years.
