NEW YORK — The Kraft Heinz Company is cutting almost 2,500 jobs in the U.S. and Canada as part of its plan to lower costs after the food companies merged earlier this year.

“This new structure eliminates duplication to enable faster decision-making, increased accountability and accelerated growth,” said spokesperson Michael Mullen in a statement on Wednesday.

Seven hundred of the cuts are coming from Kraft’s headquarters in Northfield, Ill.
