La Prep Provides Free Meals to Oakville Hospital Workers

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — La Prep is serving up complimentary #HealthcareHero meals to help frontline healthcare workers stay healthy and strong during the ongoing pandemic.

The bistro-style restaurant chain prepares and provides 200 complimentary meals to staff one day each week at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, in Oakville Ont., where the restaurant has a location.

“Healthcare workers are providing an invaluable service. We are showing them how grateful we are for the work they’re doing to keep us safe,” says La Prep CEO Naveen Seth.

Hospital administration determine each week which departments receive the complimentary meals.

La Prep wants to expand the charitable initiative to feed more healthcare workers at Oakville Trafalgar and other hospitals. It will give donors the opportunity to buy #HealthcareHero meals for healthcare workers, above and beyond the 200 it has committed to provide each week. For $10, donors can purchase a meal for a hospital worker to show their appreciation. Donors can pay for a single meal or as many as they want. An online donation page can be found at healthcareheroes.laprep.com.

In addition to this initiative, since late March, La Prep has been providing complimentary coffee and fresh pastries at select times to physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ont. as a show of appreciation.

Meanwhile, La Prep’s sister restaurant chain — Chaska, which specializes in authentic Indian street food — is adapting operations at one of its locations to better serve diners stuck at home because of physical-distancing measures.

Chaska’s location at 2325 Matheson Blvd. E. in Mississauga, Ont. has been re-opened to provide delivery and takeout service. The menu has also been expanded to feature more family combo options to serve groups of two to eight diners.

“We know a lot of families are staying at home and going out only on an essential basis right now. Our new combos help give couples and families different options to enjoy meals together,” Seth says.
