VANCOUVER — Vancouver Magazine named the Northern Italian hotspot La Quercia Best Restaurant at its 2011 Restaurant Awards.

Other winners included the Asian buzz-worthy eatery Bao Bei in the Best New Restaurant category and Two Rivers Meat, a boutique butcher shop with old-world sensibilities, as Best Supplier/Producer. On the human resources side, Nico Schuermans, who cooks a blend of Euro-Vancouver, North African-inspired food as executive chef at Chambar took Chef of the Year and Simon Kaulback of Boneta, who follows “the bartender’s cardinal rule: make customers a drink they’ll love,” won the Bartender of the Year accolade.

The winners were selected by 19 judges, including Joie Alvaro Kent, a columnist for Montecristo magazine, DJ Kearney, a sommelier instructor for the International Sommelier Guild and Mia Stainsby of The Vancouver Sun.
