LEAF Offering Audit Grants

VICTORIA — LEAF (Leaders in Environmentally Accountable Foodservice) has launched an initiative offering a limited number of LEAF-audit grants to help independent restaurateurs start or continue their journey to more-sustainable operations.

The grants are currently available for independently operated Canadian foodservice facilities (restaurant, cafe or other) in Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and surrounding area, Ottawa and Montreal.

LEAF is Canada’s only nationwide sustainable-foodservice certification program. LEAF Certification offers accreditation to restaurants demonstrating efforts in environmental and sustainable foodservice practices. Certified restaurants must meet minimum requirements in 10 key areas of sustainability, including energy use; food purchasing and menu items; supplies; building and location; furnishing and decorative items; chemicals; waste and recycling; employees; policy and innovation; and water use.

The grant-application form and further information is available at leafme.org.
