TORONTO — What’s the one thing talented chefs like more than turning out 200 covers of incredibly tasty food every night to a packed house in their own restaurant?: beating a bunch of other chefs in a black box competition.

And, thanks to Longo’s, some of Canada’s best young chefs will soon get their chance to do just that. A selection of local-leaning toques from Toronto will be competing July 3 and 4 in the Brigantine Room at Harbourfront Centre, using a series of secret ingredients to see which dish comes out on top.

Competing Toronto chefs include Scott Vivian of Beast Restaurant, local-food advocate Joshna Maharaj of The Stop, Howard Dubrovsky of L.A.B. Restaurant and Marco DiVincenzo, representing Longo’s.

The winner will go on to compete in the Longo’s International Iron Chef Competition at the Hot & Spicy Food Festival presented by Now magazine (Aug. 13 to 15), also held at Harbourfront Centre. The event will be hosted by TV personality and chef, Christian Pritchard.

The chefs will be judged by an experienced panel, including Toronto chef Chris McDonald of Cava Restaurant and Iron Chef America floor reporter, Kevin Brauch.
