TORONTO — Noted Canadian wine writer Natalie MacLean has launched a new mobile application for iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, Droid and other smartphones that will enable Canadian wine drinkers to choose what wines go best with certain fare, particularly “green foods,” such as asparagus, peppers, peas and other fresh vegetables.

“Green foods are the problem children of the wine world,” says MacLean, editor of the wine site nataliemaclean.com. “But as a stubborn hedonist, I’sve found some terrific Canadian wines to drink with them.”

The new app builds on the success of Maclean’s Drinks Matcher and includes all the pairings of the original, plus countless wine reviews, recipes, articles, blog posts, glossary definitions, a cellar journal and a winery directory. “It’s like having a sommelier in your pocket,” boasts a press release.

In the spirit of going green (and giving back green), the new mobile tool is free. To access it and find more information on its features, click here.
