TORONTO — Acclaim for Hawksworth keeps rolling in, as the Vancouver-based establishment is being named Restaurant of the Year by Maclean’s in a soon-to-be-released report of the country’s top 50 restaurants.
“It gets the nod, because it captures the zeitgeist perfectly,” says Jacob Richler, food writer for the Toronto-based publication. “Basically, Hawksworth strikes a perfect pitch of casual posh — precisely as one more typically finds in cities like New York, London and other sophisticated places four times Vancouver’s size.”
The 132-page report will also honour The Grove in Toronto, which will receive the award for New Restaurant of the Year; as well as Normand Laprise of Toqué in Montreal who will be named Chef of the Year.
The special award issue will be available Oct. 1.
