OAK BROOK, Ill. — McDonald’s Corporation recently announced some corporate human resource news.

Don Thompson, the president and COO, was recently elected to the company’s Board of Directors, and Kevin Newell was named executive vice-president and global chief brand officer.

Thompson first joined the McDonald’s team as an electrical engineer in 1990 and has since worked as U.S. chief operating officer, executive vice-president and division president and president of McDonald’s U.S.A.

“Don is an exceptional leader, with tremendous knowledge of our business and the QSR industry,” said Andrew McKenna, the chairman of the Board of Directors. “With his strong global insights, he will bring valuable experience to our Board.”

Newell, who was most recently McDonald’s U.S.A. senior vice-president and restaurant support officer, joined the QSR chain in 1989 as field media manager in the international marketing department and was later promoted to marketing division officer for the central division in the U.S.

“I’m honoured to be given this opportunity to leverage all of our tremendous assets and resources to build an even stronger bond with our customers,” said Newell.

Thompson’s new duties begin immediately, while Newell will assume his new role Feb.1.
