McD’s Partners with Amex

American Express cardholders could soon be happily putting happy meals on their credit cards. In a bold new move for the traditionally upscale credit card company, Amex has signed a deal with McDonald’s Canada that will allow its customers to flash their plastic to purchase a McDonald’s burger.

According to Amex, it’s all part of an effort to make the card more of a go-to option for the average Canadian consumer. In fact, in a recent Toronto Star article, Colin Temple, vice-president and general manager of merchant services, Amex Bank of Canada, said, “Over the last few years, we’ve really been trying to focus on how to make our produce resonate even more with our card members. And we’re been hearing that our card members want to use their American Express card not just for airline tickets, for example, but they also want to use it to fill up their car, or even, low and behold, buy a burger.”

The move will undoubtedly have a significant impact vis-à-vis other major credit card providers and the broader quick-serve food industry.
