SASKATOON — Twenty-five Canadian chefs recently submitted their favourite lentil recipes in hopes of winning a chance to participate in a national food campaign with chef Michael Smith — and the winners have been announced.

The chefs posted their signature lentil dish on loveyourlentils.ca. The two winners that received the most online votes were Norman Aitken from Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar in Ottawa, who developed The Great Canadian Lentil Wild Mushroom Ravioli recipe, and Charles Part from Les Fougères restaurant in Chelsea, Que., with his Great Canadian Beluga Lentil Burger — A Whale of a Burger recipe. Both winners will join Smith and Food Day founder Anita Stewart in P.E.I for Food Day Aug. 4.

Lentils are healthy, delicious, versatile, easy to cook with and easy to find, because we grow the very best lentils in the world right here in Canada,” said Smith. “I love that so many great cooks across the country participated in the Love Your Lentils contest, and I’sm looking forward to welcoming the winners to Prince Edward Island for the culinary adventure of a lifetime.”

Love Your Lentils Canada was a national contest sponsored by Canadian Lentils, in partnership with Food Day Canada.
