Mill Street Brewery Celebrates 20 Years of Brewing in Toronto

TORONTO — Mill Street Brewery is celebrating 20 years of brewing with a lineup of events and two limited-edition product releases: Organic Coffee Porter, featuring notes of chocolate and coffee from Balzac’s Coffee, and Organic Marzen, a traditional German-style Marzen beer.

Starting today, Mill Street Brewery will host several events throughout National Organic Week in the Toronto Distillery District, including the Brewmaster’s Dinner Series, an Organic Farmer’s Market, and the Organic Sound Festival.

In 2002, Mill Street Brewery first opened and created its Original Organic Lager, which has grown into a local craft-beer staple. Some crucial chapters in the Mill Street Brewery story include the opening of a second brewpub location in Ottawa in 2012; the introduction of Cobblestone Organic Stout and Tankhouse Organic Pale Ale in 2018; and the launch of Mill Street Brewery’s ‘Organic Future’ campaign in partnership with the Canadian Organic Trade Association to support Canadian farmers in their transition from traditional farming to organic farming in 2021.

“Original Organic Lager was the first beer we ever made, and the first-ever organic beer brewed in Ontario,” says Daryl Minor, president of Mill Street Brewery & Brickworks Ciderhouse. “To celebrate how far we’ve come in two decades of brewing, the annual, national celebration of organic food, farming and products across the country seemed a perfect fit to raise a toast to organic brewing — past, present and future.”
