TORONTO — A selection of culinary students from Toronto’s Humber College had a chance to put their skills to the test last week, at the annual Nestlé Professional Minor’s Bold Sandwiches Competition.

As part of their ongoing partnership, Nestlé Professional and Humber College challenged top students from the college’s culinary, nutrition and baking programs to create their own innovative sandwich recipes that included at least one Nestlé Professional Minor’s Base or Minor’s Flavour Concentrate.

During the live on-campus competition, participating students created sandwiches that were bold in both taste and presentation. Gloria Carvajal’s creation — the Tandori-Mex Chicken Sandwich — won over the judges, claiming the first-place prize.

The 2018 competition results were as follows:

• 1st place ($1,000) and People’s Choice ($500) — Gloria Carvajal, Tandoori-Mex Chicken Sandwich
• 2nd place ($750) — Samantha Simms, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich with Bourbon Ancho Chile Maple Syrup and Dill Pickle Slaw
• 3rd place ($500) — Mihali Patel, Feisty Felafel Pita Sandwich
