New Dinner-Theatre Presentation Debuts in Toronto

TORONTO — The fairy-tale land of Ever After was the centre of a murder mystery dinner theatre show that had its official opening in Toronto at Mysteriously Yours Mystery Dinner Theatre at Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue this past weekend.

The show, which has been running for a few weeks since its soft opening, has been well-received. “It’s been getting a great response. A lot of people are catching the fairy-tale references and some social-media [references] we have,” explained Brian Caws, founder of the dinner-theatre and co-writer of the latest mystery, “Once Upon a Murder: A Fairy-tale Murder Mystery.”

The show brings together a collage of fairy-tale characters who become suspect of a murder that happens at the wedding of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming (who go by slightly different names during the presentation).

Prior to the show, diners choose from a three-course meal that is inspired by the chef’s latin roots. “I love the chicken breast piri piri. It’s got a sauce made out of garlic and chilis and lime and cumin, so it’s got a bit of a spice, but not enough to burn you,” said Rossy Earle, executive chef. “I try to make [dishes] that are approachable, but, at the same time, with more flavour than you expect from dinner theatre.”

The menu evolves with the show, which changes twice a year. Since opening in 1987, the actors at the mystery dinner theatre have performed approximately 50 mysteries.
